Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea)
Only a few days after finishing the construction of the big pond in my biotope, the first grey wagtail was landing to curiously inspect the new waters. It stayed for the whole winter and in the following autumn she came back with one of her family members. To my great joy the grey wagtails seem to enjoy the winter months at my place!
In the pond you can see them jumping from leaf to leaf or from stone to stone, to busily pick the insects from the water surface:
But … they also discovered another food source!
"Well, hopefully nobody can see me here, how I approach the bird bath and feeding place!":
But these delicious oats, dipped in sunflower oil, are very much to my taste!":
"Hopefully this is served every day in this winter residence!":
Such nice birds! I am looking forward to autumn, when they will come back again!
