Stork colony

One year about the life of the stork colony at San Roque

Building a nest

If a family is to be started, a nice cozy home for the offspring is a must. In fact most colony storks have their old nests, but those are always in need of repair because the last years breed trampled down the edges of the nest while making their flying exercises. So a just hatched chick could roll out of the nest. This must not happen at all! Also wind and weather caused damages. That's why in the colony soon action prevails to fix everything again. Some young stork couples even decide for a new construction, after all attempts to occupy a long-established couple's nest failed!

"Our first living quarter is very small, but will be very fine and …

…richness of ideas are not to be missed!":

It should take a fortnight until the nest on this all too small platform will be finished. Again and again the branches with much effort installed fell down again. Pitiful that was! But they made it and successfully raised three chicks!

Never had they capitulated and the back of the partner even had to serve as a launch pad:

What is to be found in a home depot!

"This shred I in any case also shall take along!":

Also this stork couple tireless carried nesting material into their penthouse apartment!

"I also made a bargain!":

"Me too! Exactly this branch I needed!":
