Cannibalism at the Iberian water frog (rana perezi)

It seldom occurs, but it occurs: cannibalism at Iberian water frogs. Only once I saw it and I had by chance the camera at hand. I did not enjoy making these photos. Just for documentary reasons and because I did not have any chance to rescue the victim for life.

The poor victim had already been caught when I recognized it:

And it still struggled …

…. wild for its life, while it disappeared deeper and deeper into the frog mouth:

Also for a hunter not so easy to swallow such a big prey:

And so he just pulled it out a little bit:

And with the help of his front legs pushed it back into his throat:
