Guadalquivir

Guadalquivir
February 6-7 2010

"STOP! This tree and this nest in the tree are mine!"

Gorgeous, the large white stork colony at the river had returned from Africa and moved to the nests on the pilgrimage chapel:

So nice how these storks live there at the Guadalquivir!

An idyll!

The red legs also took over the signal lights for the navigation!

The table at the Guadalquivir is well laid for all:

A group of five marsh harriers …

… frightened the stilt colony::

The alarm calls of the stilts also frightened the flock of lapwings, who …

… quickly took their heels:

"Baa, in fact we are teeny-weeny, but we enjoy our life in our herd of sheep!"

In the more upstream located areas it is the order of the day, that the car …

… out of a sudden is surrounded by sheep:

What we had never experienced before is, that the herd stopped, because a lamb was just born and smelled and licked from the proud mother, while …

… the amniotic sac was still dripping. But the shepherd called our attention to the sheep in the background, which had lied down:

The birth procedure just had started and a lamb was already looking carefully for the first time into this world:

With unbelievable quickness and very experienced touch the shepherd helped the mother animal within no time the wet lamb was born.

And for a short moment he put it tenderly to the mother, that she could get in touch to the intimate smell, before both were parted taken care of

This was so fascinating, to be able to experience this giving birth procedure in the middle of the countryside! Well, the whole excursion war just terrific!
