Dehesa de Abajo

Dehesa de Abajo
April 5 - 8 2010

Hour after hour we spent at the Dehesa de Abaja and the surrounding ponds, …

… to admire the animal world in this unique oasis, like this little egret looking for food …

… or this other one, who spent the afternoon on the flower meadow:

Mr. Grey heron dried its wings and sets off for its sleeping tree:

A purple heron, who unnoticed by us stood in the reed at the bank, changed the bank side:

Another little egret watched the activities, decorated with its beautiful wedding dress:

"Ghee, here are herons with such long legs on the way!" the perky cattle egrets are astonished:

But there are herons with much shorter legs than the cattle egrets, namely the night herons, which we could observe during dawn and dusk in their sleeping trees:

Here a young bird and …

… here an adult bird. These beautiful red eyes!

Both flew a round, not alarmed by us …

… but at the big tractor which passed:

Well, and who was watching the birds as enthralled as we did, might overlook such a guardrail slashing a tire::

The goodbye from the Dehesa de Abaja was real difficult for us! But certainly we shall come there again. I could imagine, that the Dehesa and all the other wonderful areas, which we got to know, are a pleasure for every bird friend and nature lover at any time of the year. Not to imagine, when only the white storks, which got their nests their, have to take care of their offspring and from the tree nests begging heads are to be seen! I am sure we soon have to get there again!

Best regards

Birgit
