Parque Natural de Doñana

Travel report Parque Natural de Doñana (Salines at Bonanza und Algaida) and rice-growing region of La Janda (Atlantic coast)
July 4-5 2009

Everywhere we saw, but far away, white birds sitting in the bushes. Sometimes they flew up and then were hiding in the undergrowth. We assumed "cattle egrets". And after we got to see cattle egrets quite frequently we first didn´t pay attention to the "white birds". Until we looked at them through the binoculars. So much for cattle egrets! It was a huge colony of white spoonbills with hundreds of youngsters!

"Please don´t think that I get into a blue funk, because .....

… I take wings from here in a moment!":

"Look, how …

…perfect I am in performing that!":

"And flying in company is even much better and makes lots of fun!":

And we just were enthralled by the spoonbills!

The funny cattle egrets we met the next day on our way home in their breeding colony near La Janda.

"Oh boy! What an excitement here!":

A young cattle egret was balancing carefully from branch to branch, because he was not able to fly yet:

Another was shouting: "Huuuungry!"

During breeding season the adult birds have an orange-buff plumage on the back, breast and crown, what makes them to look even more funny!
